The Start will rise!!THE START release new album 'Initiation' in the UK on September 13th. Unlike the US release (issued on August 24th), the UK version will feature the hidden bonus track 'Sleepwalker', that was included on advance versions of the US release.

Sadly, AIMEE ECHO and co were unable to celebrate the album's release too much as the band's ongoing line-up woes continued. Drummer BILLY BRINDLECOMB JR. announced his departure from the group on the eve of the album hitting the racks and his reasons for quitting the band are unknown at this time.

The Start are currently advertising for a replacement in order to hit the road in the States in support of the new album's release. They do intend to return to the UK following their support slot to THE OFFSPRING and RUFIO earlier this year. The band also played a one-off date with Rufio at London's ULU.

Reports are filtering through from the States that former LE MANS and ENUFF Z' NUFF guitarist DEREK FRIGO has been found dead outside his girlfriend's Hollywood home.

Wonder why WHITE LIGHT MOTORCADE sound so good? Well, there is a distinct link to the late 80s/early 90s New York hard rock scene with the fact that guitarist MARK LEWIS was a member of the Q-Prime managed PLEASURE BOMBS. The band recorded an album for Atco Records.

The long overdue reissue of Girlschool 'Hit And Run'GIRLSCHOOL's first two albums ('Demolition' and 'Hit And Run') occurs on June 14th when Castle Music will be releasing both records on CD for the first time. Stellar Tuesday: The modern face of glitter rock. Pic from www.stellartuesday.com by Leslie Van Stelton.Influenced as much by 70s glitter rock as the more modern 'emo' sounds of JIMMY EAT WORLD, New York's STELLAR TUESDAY are a band on the up.

Having released a five song EP in May 2003, the band (comprised of vocalist/guitarist ERIC HAUPTMAN, guitarist MARK COLLOM, bassist/pianist/vocalist ANNE THITIPRASERTI and drummer JIMMI KANE) have completed a new set of demos that compare well to PLACEBO, D-GENERATION and SOUL ASYLUM ('Everything Reminds Me' being pretty reminiscent of the latter). Indeed, 'I Wish You Tonight' and 'Last Goodbye' are akin to BRIAN MOLKO fronting U2 with Thitipraserti adding significantly to proceedings with some strong vocalising that is far more upfront to be merely passed off as backing up the enigmatic Hauptman's performance. They complement each other well.

For more info on the band visit www.stellartuesday.com.

The Stockholm based GMR Music Group have recently re-issued TALISMAN's self-titled debut, 'Genesis' (arguably the band's strongest album) and 'Humanimal' alongside new records from ARENA SWEDEN and ACES HIGH.

All three Talisman records are issued in slipcases and with new liner notes penned by bassist and band founder MARCEL JACOB. The first two also include a bonus CD featuring previously unreleased demo and live material. 'Genesis', in particular, features the album's original demo tracks recorded with MATTI ALFONZETTI in place of JEFF SCOTT SOTO.

'Humanimal' meanwhile is released for the first time as a double set featuring parts I and II. Future Talisman re-issues include 1995's 'Life' (the album that included the band's fantastic cover of SEAL's 'Crazy') and 'Truth'.

Ace's High 'Forgive & Forget'Arena Sweden is the highly melodic comeback for ex BAD HABIT man HAL MARABEL. The album was recorded with Swedish TV star DENNIS RADOCIC on vocals and has been proving to be extremely successful on the domestic market. Incidentally, GMR have also re-released Bad Habit's 1995 album 'Revolution'.

Ace's High's long overdue third album, 'Forgive & Forget', comes ten years after the release of the band's stunning 'Ten 'N Out' debut, an album that achieved a great deal of critical acclaim at the time. Originally slated for release by Z, the record is finally issued by GMR packaged in a slipcase and shouldn't disappoint long-time fans.

Rumour has it that ANGEL are pencilled in to appear as special guests to a proposed DANGER DANGER UK tour in October/November.

With the reformed, STEEVI JAIMZ and ACE FINCHUM led  TIGERTAILZ set to release a Double A side CD single through TB Records in May, there seem's to be talk of a reunion going on with JAY PEPPER, PEPSI TATE and KIM HOOKER involved in a rival claim to the band name.

Former PILLBOX vocalist SUSAN HYATT and ex T-RIDE and SNAKE RIVER CONSPIRACY guitarist GEOFF TYSON have joined forces in STIMULATOR. The band's debut, self-titled album should now be available.

The LEGS DIAMOND/STARZ/PAT TRAVERS show set to take place on April 10th has been cancelled. www.starzcentral.com reports that; "We have been informed by Lone Star Attractions, promoter of the concert, that Legs Diamond have cancelled their appearance for Saturday's show. Consequently, the promoter has decided to postpone the entire show. This comes as a complete shock to us. We are very disappointed, as we were looking forward to playing for all our friends and fans in San Antonio. If you have any further questions, you can direct them to the show's promoter at Lone Star Attractions, 210-494-9477."

In the meantime, the debut, self-titled Starz album has surprisingly been re-issued in the UK by the BGO label.

NIKKA COSTA's long awaited sophomore rock record will feature a guest showing from PRINCE.

The GENIUS debut album is tentatively titled 'Proper Villians'.

I have it from a good source that Wounded Bird Records are set to release KIM MITCHELL's solo debut mini album at some point this year. The five track release has never been available before on CD, yet contains some of Kim's best songs.

North Carolina based melodic rock band DUKES NITEMARE have just released their latest album,Duke's Nitemare album art entitled 'Another Town...Another Show'. Reminiscent of SURGIN and early BON JOVI (which is probably the same thing really, isn't it??), the band will also be appearing on the Z-Roxx 'Stars N Bars' compilation due shortly. Formed by KYLE 'DUKE' MILLER and JOHNNY SCOTT, Dukes Nitemare issued their debut record in 1997(reviewed, if I recall correctly, in the now deunct 'Hard Roxx' magazine) and followed it up three years later with 'Willows'.

The bizarrely named RPM has just issued her 'Irrational Anthem' album. A cross between JANE CHILD and LEAH ANDREONE, Kentucky born RPM is an interesting character and the album has been greeted with critical acclaim from the likes of TOMMY LEE and 'Rolling Stone' magazine, amongst others. For more info visit www.rpm.tv.

Former HITTMAN vocalist DIRK KENNEDY is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut solo album. Entitled 'Life Is Now', the record is due later this year.

" I have a fully equipped digital studio in the house and have been writing for a while." reports Dirk. "I took some time off to get the "industry out of my hair" and remember what it felt like to write for myself again. It feels good!

"Dirk Kennedy 'Life Is Now'I must warn you the record is far and away from the "sound"  I helped create with Hittman." he continues. "It's more like ME and..." he adds with a laugh, "less Like QUEENSRYCHE. I always hated being compared to them and of course...him!

"That wasn't a bad thing, but it was always there and after a while I felt like his (GEOFF TATE's) shadow, no pun intended (i.e. CRIMSON GLORY).

"It's a record with a lot of piano and a lot of harmony and melody...Just want to do something for me.

"I'm not that interested in hitting the F #'s anymore, but there are a few anyway, just so I knew they were still there!

"I am very excited about it and getting back in the game is where I want to be. I was never happy as an 'almost was'. "

THE START begin recording their second full album (and first for Nitro Records) on February 1st. Vocalist AIMEE ECHO tells reyno-roxx.com that the record, tentatively called 'Initiation', should emerge in May. In the meantime, for more band info visit www.thisisthestart.com.

Amusing news to report today comes courtesy of ITN, who suggest that Air-Guitar-Aerobics, a mixture of traditional aerobics and rock 'n' roll, has come to the UK!  ITN states that: "The workout is performed to air-guitar classics (cranked up, natch) such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by QUEEN, and favourites from the likes of AC/DC and GUNS 'N ROSES. It was modelled on the success of a regime called 'Punk-Rock-Aerobics' which has had New Yorkers keeping trim out of the mosh pit. Rock has once again become the preferred musical genre of Europe and the success of bands like THE DARKNESS has boosted demands for a rock-based exercise class.

American dance tutor and Air-Guitar-Aerobics creator Laila Hardman explained: "This is a really cool workout that's lots of fun.

"It works all major muscle groups, paying particular attention to the legs and the upper body."

The exercise is said to widen the appeal of aerobics to those who would not usually consider taking part in a class. Not only does it attract those who prefer rock music, but it also holds a greater appeal to the male audience. A survey claims a rock-tastic 34.3 per cent of male respondents."

But we've all known this for years, haven't we? Excuse me while I just go find my imaginary Paul  Stanley Ibanez...

BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, the new hard rock band formed by NIKKI SIXX alongside ex LA GUNS guitarist TRACII GUNS and also featuring drummer SCOT COOGAN and vocalist LONDON LEGRAND have their debut album released through Sanctuary Records on March 8th. Titled 'Here Come The Brides', the album is a fine mixture of snot nosed punk metal and finely observed hard rock.

THE ATARIS release a live album, 'Live At The Metro', through Columbia on February 10. The album was recorded at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago in October 2003. The band will be touring in the UK later in the month.

Erstwhile BUCK CHERRY vocalist JOSH TODD releases his debut solo album, 'You Made Me', through Todd Entertainment on March 9th.

Image Records re-issue the 'Wonderful Life' and 'Upside Of Down' albums by THE TORIES on March  23rd.

'Everybody Loves A Happy Ending', the comeback album from TEARS FOR FEARS, is released by Arista on April 6th.

PHIL VARONE has parted company with SKID ROW. More on this story later, but it does rather affect the band interview due to be posted here soon. Doh! Reports suggest that his replacement is one TIM DIDURO, who will shortly be appearing in the band's next video.

Former JEKYLL AND HYDE frontman JAKOB has a brand new band project on the go called PUNCHLINE. With a deal imminent, the tracks recorded thus far puts the man's music on a par with the kind of material fellow Swedes MASQUERADE should've followed the critically acclaimed 'Surface Of Pain' album with. More news on Jakob's activities soonest.

FIREHOUSE have confirmed a new date on their upcoming UK tour. The band (alongside VAUGHN and PRIDE) will be appearing at Nottingham's Rock City venue on March 5. Incidentally, the previously announced show in Rotherham on March 9th has now been upgraded to the Sheffield Corporation.

Oklahoma based FastLane Records are set to release a wealth of brand new product this year. Label boss SHAWN C. LANE reports that BANG THE UNION's 'American Dream' is the first of the new albums and is set for a January 27th release. The band is in the "old school AC/DC" mould, with vocals akin to BON SCOTT. A CHEAP TRICK tribute album (titled 'Tricked Out') is also due; as is a similar effort dedicated to SWEET in the Summer. Go to www.fastlanerecords.com for further details.

RANDI SCOTT of SUPERMINT reports that the band are currently putting the finishing touches to a retooled version of the Chicago band's 'Off To Stupidsville' album. TB Records will release the new version of the record in the UK. A British tour is set to be announced for February.

This website's latest interview subject, erstwhile DESMOND CHILD & ROUGE member DIANA GRASSELLI has recently been working on a KURT WEILL show at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis. Diana reports that: "A really wonderful singer named PRUDENCE JOHNSON had a favourite CD of Rock and Rollers singing Kurt Weill songs and it wasn't until after we had known each other for a while that she discovered I had sung on it, a RALPH SHUCKETT project, coincidentally. She then called me a few years later to ask if I would play Lotte Lenya in her original theatre piece. It was a blast!" Click here for quick link to the feature on Diana and DC&R.

SUGARCULT release their new album, 'Palm Trees And Power LInes', through Ultimatum on March 9th. Other upcoming new releases include PANTERA duo DIAMOND DARRELL and VINNIE PAUL's new band DAMAGEPLAN's debut release entitled 'New Found Power' on February 10th. Bizarrely, an mp3 of one of the tracks from the album has been removed from the band's website (www.damage-plan.com) allegedly following a request from Elektra!

DEXTER FREEBISH also return in 2004 with 'Tripped Into Divine' through Sixthman Records on January 20th.

Wounded Bird Records have just re-issued ROBIN TROWER's 'Take What You Need' and 'In The Line of Fire' albums. STEVE WALSH has been added to the list of artists the label intends to re-issue material from in the New Year. Future product includes albums from ROSSINGTON, NANTUCKET and FIONA.

THE START have just re-issued the 'Death Via Satellite' EP through Nitro Records. The new version features brand new artwork and the inclusion of the '1234' video. This is the first release under the band's recently signed deal with the label. The band released the original version of the EP in 2002. A brand new album is expected in the New Year.

Frontiers Records release three albums of particular interest on January 19th. 'Influences & Connections Volume One: Mr Big' brings together songs written or covered by MR BIG. This is the first in a series of albums Frontiers intend to release in this style.

The record contains fourteen tracks, with ex Mr Big drummer PAT TORPEY featuring on every one of them. The band's legendary bassist BILLY SHEEHAN also appears on a good proportion of the tracks, including a lead vocal performance on 'Addicted To That Rush'. Ex guitarist RITCHIE KOTZEN (who replaced original axe slinger PAUL GILBERT) also puts in a number of appearances, including supplying lead vocals on 'To Be With You'.

Other artists guesting on the record are PAUL RODGERS (FREE/BAD COMPANY), DOUG PINNICK and TY TABOR of KING'S X, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JOE LYN TURNER, MICKEY THOMAS of JEFFERSON STARSHIP, LANNY CORDOLA and CHUCK WRIGHT of HOUSE OF LORDS, STEVE LUKATHER, GENE BLACK, DONNIE VIE, GLENN HUGHES and STEVIE SALAS, amongst others. The album has already been released in Japan. However, the Frontiers version features 'Alive And Kickin'' as the all important, fourteenth bonus track.

Frontiers also issue the new solo album from erstwhile Mr Big frontman ERIC MARTIN. Titled 'Destroy All Monsters', it was recorded in his home 'Pepperland' studio. Describing his music as "distorted pop", Martin's new record perfectly captures his nu-breed leanings far better than the previous 'I'm Goin' Sane' album.

Finally, the label will also be offering the debut album from LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM. Hailed as a 'brand new melodic rock supergroup', LAD comprises Swedish AOR star MIKAEL ERLANDSSON (vocals), ANDY MALECEK (of FAIR WARNING fame on guitars) and the EUROPE trio of MIC MICHAELI (keyboards), JOHN LEVEN (bass) and IAN HAUGHLAND (drums).

FIREHOUSE, VAUGHN and PRIDE will be touring the UK and Spain in the New Year. Dates have just been confirmed and are as follows: Saturday March 6th Caraco, Madrid, Spain: Tuesday March 9th Classic Rock Society, Oakwood Leisure Centre, Rotherham (including DEADLINE); Wednesday March 10th The Limelight , Belfast, Northern Ireland: Thursday March 11th Renfew Ferry, Glasgow, Scotland (including Deadline); Saturday March 13th The Underworld, London; Sunday  March 14th JB’s , Dudley.
